自分が追われているという不合理な恐怖心がある。主に精神疾患の症状として使われる。例えば、"I feel like everyone is watching me and plotting against me. I must be paranoid."

信じがたいものがあるときに使われる。信頼することが難しい、不信感や疑念があることを表す。例えば、"I find it hard to trust him. He seems to be hiding something. I'm mistrustful of him."

他人の行動や言動に疑いを抱くことを表す。paranoidと違い、間違った信念や妄想は伴わないことが多い。例えば、"She looked at me strangely. I can't help but be suspicious of her intentions."

信用できない、疑い深いことを表す。相手を信じられない状態にあることを表す。例えば、"I'm sorry, but I'm distrustful of your motives for asking me that question."

人間不信、社会不信を表す。世間や他人の動機に対して根拠のない懐疑的態度をとることを表す。例えば、"He's so cynical about politics. He doesn't believe anyone is honest."
